The Presidential Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) is our country’s premier volunteer award program encouraging citizens to live a life of service through a national recognition. The award is presented through the office of the President of the United States and the Elks Drug Awareness Program. The award encourages you to look around, be inspired and take positive actions that can change the world.

The Elks Drug Awareness Program presents the lifetime PVSA to an individual who has volunteered 100 or more hours over their lifetime. To date, more than 2,000 volunteers nationwide have been recognized for their service. Abbey Brown, the daughter of our member Shannon Brown and has achieved this award. She has totaled over 100 hours in volunteering with the Girl Scouts, Villa Park High School, the Orange Elks Lodge #1475, and the University of Notre Dame.

Abbey is a graduate of Villa Park High School and is a sophomore at the University of Notre Dame. At the university, Abbey is a coxswain on the men’s rowing team. The coxswain’s job is steering the boat and coordinating the power and rhythm of the rowers. She is also volunteering with the South Bend Homeless Shelter.

Abbey began volunteering when she was girl scout and has been extremely helpful
with the Orange Elks Lodge #1475. Several of her events included the Down Syndrome Association of Orange County Family Picnic, Red Carpet Ball, Youth Mixer, and the Buddy Walk. She helps with the Eli Home Shelter for Abused Children’s Thanksgiving Dinner, and our lodge’s Christmas Basket program.
Congratulations to Abbey on this award. She was nominated by our lodge, approved by the Orange Coast District, the California Hawaii State Organization and the Elks Grand Lodge. The nomination was then sent to the White House where a Lifetime Achievement Award was signed by the President of the United States. A Presents Volunteer Service Award pin is included with the award.
Well done Abbey and Thank You for your volunteer service!
