A cleft occurs when certain body parts and structures do not fuse together during fetal development. Clefts can involve the lip and/or the roof of the mouth, which is made up of both hard and soft palate. This year’s picnic was held at the Santa Ana Zoo for patients who have been treated at Children's Hospital of Orange County for craniofacial problems. The event gives these children an opportunity to meet and enjoy a special day with other individuals who have experienced similar challenges. The Orange Elks sent ten volunteers to help set up the event and serve more than 300 lunches to these special children and their families.

The picnic included a talent show, whip cream pie eating contest, three legged race and a visit to the zoo.
