“As long as there is a Vet, the Orange Elks will never forget” Thank you for your service to our country, we are truly grateful to you.

E R Colin Smith opened and welcomed one hundred and fifty three members and guests to our Veterans Program. Colin mentioned how the Elks got involved with our servicemen and veterans and what the Elks are doing for them today.

Brian Fitzpatrick, our Veterans Committee Chairman, presented the 2013 Orange Elks Local Hero Scholarship of $1475 to Joe Torres, First Marine Division.  Joe graduated from Mater Dei H S and then joined the Marines. He had three deployments to Afghanistan earning several Medals and Ribbons. Joe’s main goal is to “get his life back on track” and with this Scholarship will be able to do that.

The Orange Lodge supports our Veterans with programs such as Patriots and Paws, the Half Way houses in Santa Ana, the Stand Downs, The Memorial Day Tri City Memorial, bingo at the V A hospital in Long Beach, luncheons at the V A hospital for the blind vets, our Local Hero Scholarships to mention but a few things our lodge does to thank our veterans!

Our Honored Speaker was Orange Lodge member and Command Sergeant Major Al Montano who received the Legion of Merit. Al spoke of his forty years in the Army and how the services have changed in that time for the good in that time. He mentioned that the recognition the servicemen are getting was the result of our mass media in the 90’s.

Master of Ceremonies, Don Westerfield showed a couple of very moving videos about veterans. He then introduced forty one of our lodge members who were in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard.
