The Reading Promise aims to put a book in the hands of at-risk children. Orange Elks members Trace Weatherford and Will Hare applied and received the Elks National Foundation Impact Grant for $10,000.

Trace, the committee chairmen, started The Reading Promise provided a book bag and a new book into the hands of at-risk or low-income child in the city of Orange. These are kindergarten through 4th graders from Title 1 Elementary Schools in the Orange Unified School District. The child makes a promise to read and cherish the book. This is the third event that the Orange Public Library has hosted. Our Community Partners.

The event included the Tackett Service dogs, arts and crafts, face painting, a kids computer area and the kids were encouraged to sing up for a free library card.
