You know when you see a policeman you feel nervous. Well, how do you feel when you see two policeman and two police dogs?
The other night Bosco and Griffin stopped by the lodge with their handlers. Bosco is the veteran police dog for the Orange PD and Griffin is the new kid on the block. Bosco is seven and a half  and Griffin is three and a half. Both are German Shepherds. Bosco has helped in over twenty assisted arrests, one major narcotics arrest and many other narcotics arrests. Griffin is a black German Shepherd, which is rare, and is presently in narcotics training. One of the important jobs of the dogs is keeping the officers safe. The dogs are great with the public. If you want to meet Bosco or Griffin, they will be at the National Night Out.
The Orange Elks Lodge has two members who over the years have helped with the PD’s dogs. First is Mike Duff, the chairman of the police dog fund. Since 2006, he has raised over $26,000 to help purchase five police dogs. Mike is starting a new fund to help secure a sixth dog for the Orange PD.  Amy Carr, a member of the Orange PD and an Orange Elk, has helped raise money for the dogs. Recently she held a dinner and raised over $700 to help the officers whose dogs have retired to help with their veterinary bills. When a dog retires the K9 officer can keep the dog and will assume all responsibilities for their medical bills.
